Hobbs, Chaptiama Roll On At The Spa
Hobbs and Chaptiama continued their winning ways in Wednesday night's (Aug. 5) New York Sire Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings at Saratoga Casino Hotel.
The faster of the $74,500 Sire Stakes divisions went the way of 4-5 favourite Hobbs, who scored his fourth consecutive victory. The son of Credit Winner powered out to the early lead and never looked back, stoping the timer in 1:56 in line to Jason Bartlett after being tested briefly in the stretch by Barn Holden (Mark MacDonald). Take The Credit (Trond Smedshammer) finished third.
Jim Campbell trains Hobbs for the Runthetable Stables.
The other division saw Chaptiama continue his winning ways with a decisive wire-to-wire score as the 2-5 favourite. Trainer-driver Trond Smedshammer got a comfortable :59.1 first half for Chaptiama before turning up the tempo late en route to a 1:56.1 score, his third in a row. Ballcapsnbluejeans (MacDonald) and Beerthirty K (Tyler Buter) finished second and third respectively.
Chaptiama, a son of Chapter Seven, campaigns for the Purple Haze Stables.
Live racing resumes at Saratoga on Monday (Aug. 10), with New York Sire Stakes for freshman trotting colts and geldings featured. Post time is set for 12 noon.
