Blue Ivy Repeats; Palone Wins Six
Blue Ivy made it two straight when she roared through the Lightning Lane and captured Wednesday’s (Aug. 5) $17,900 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace at The Meadows.
Play For Pay led the field through mid-stretch, but when Aaron Merriman angled Blue Ivy inside, the four-year-old daughter of Captaintreacherous and All Blue was the stronger mare, scoring in 1:50.3 to match her career best. Always Giggling rallied for second, 1-1/2 lengths back, while Play For Pay saved show.
Bill Bercury trains Blue Ivy, who won for the fifth time in six 2020 starts and boosted her career bankroll to $239,010, for Renee Bercury.
Dave Palone collected six wins on the 15-race card, while Aaron Merriman and trainer Tim Twaddle each fashioned a triple.
Live racing at The Meadows resumes Saturday (Aug. 8), when the program features a $4,135.30 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
