Retros Mystery Quick In Century Feature
Taking the front early, Retros Mystery held off all challengers to post an 18-1 upset in the $9,000 featured pace at Century Downs on Tuesday (Aug. 4).
Driver James Jungquist sent the six-year-old Mystery Chase gelding to the front, taking the field past the quarter in :27.3. Crackle N Burn soon tipped first over from fourth as the tempo slowed towards a :57.4 half while Canadian Pharoh raced second over and 5-2 favourite Outlaw Gunsablazin sat third over.
Retros Mystery continued to lead as Crackle N Burn applied pressure past three-quarters in 1:25.3, but he soon scooted away. Retros Mystery strolled to the finish chased by Outlawgunsablazin rallying off cover to finish second by a length in a 1:54.1 mile, with stablemate Crackle N Burn settling for third.
Trained by owner Stewart Waterman, Retros Mystery won his first race from seven starts this season and his 16th from 100 overall, earning $135,242. He paid $39.20 to win.
