Whatnblazes Upsets In Autumn Stakes
Many people had the lion’s share of the purse money in Monday’s $46,600 final of the Autumn Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings going to Lexis Amigo based on his recent success, but he couldn’t seal the deal
with the big money on the line.
Instead Lexis Amigo, who was sent off as the 1-2 choice, faltered and left the door wide-open for a number of off-the-pace challengers including the eventual winner, Whatnblazes, who closed at odds of 12-1.
Lexis Amigo, in typical fashion, powered to the front and free-wheeled his way through panels of :27.1, :55.4 and 1:25 before fatigue set in. The winded leader was joined in deep stretch by J Cs Magic Man and Whatnblazes, with the latter getting up in the final strides for driver Jody Jamieson, who steered home five winners on the 12-race card. J Cs Magic Man was next best and Lexis Amigo held on for third prize.
Marcel Bouvier of Guelph, ON owns and trains the son of Duke Of York-Go Get Kathy who won for the fourth time in 16 starts this season. The $23,300 payday bumped the colt’s career bankroll to $58,640.
