Wild River Swan Back To Winning Ways
After her very impressive victory last week in the Mares Preferred-Handicap Pace at Hippodrome 3R, Wild River Swan has returned to take on the top mares again on Sunday afternoon.
Last Sunday, Wild River Swan was letting no one pass her by in leading from start to finish for driver Francis Picard. She just hung on at the wire to win by a neck in 1:56, her fastest winning time in two years.
Trained and owned by Dr. John Bradbury of Cookshire-Eaton, Wild River Swan is a seven-year-old mare by Sportswriter. She is a full sister to Quebec bred champion Wildriverbumblebee p.3.1:51.2 ($117,000).
Last week’s triumph was just the third start of the year for Wild River Swan, who had shown improvement in each of her first two starts.
“I was very pleased with her mile last week,” said Dr. John Bradbury. “Surprised, yes and no. She trained super all spring.
“For Wild River Swan there is no secret to her training,” Bradbury added. “Keep her happy and she’ll race good for you. Mrs. Swan has her routine which consists of spending a major part of her day outside. Right now, because of the hot weather she sleeps out. So far everything seems good for tomorrow.”
Looking to rain on Wild River Swan’s parade Sunday will be invader D Gs Fairy Stars. She starts from post six for driver Stephane Brosseau. Two starts back at Rideau Carleton, she came from off the pace to win in a lifetime best 1:55.3.
Other contenders in the field include Y C Easy (post 8) and Godiva Mackiavelyc (post 7), both of whom were victorious two starts back at 3R.
