Watts Trebles At Red Shores

The Earl Watts stable came to play on Sunday afternoon (July 19) at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway, winning three dashes on the program.

Windemere McSeek started off Watts' hat trick with a 1:58.4 victory in line to David Dowling in the $1,400 third race. Race four, a $1,700 maiden event, saw the Watts camp's Red Dirt Magic — a two-year-old daughter of Ameripan Gigolo — win in 2:01, also with Dowling in the driver's seat. Race five completed the straight triple for Watts, when Kick The Dirt Up and Jason Hughes recorded a 1:58 victory. It was the second straight victory for the three-year-old son of Sportswriter.

The $2,700 featured pace was claimed by Heart And Soul and driver Gilles Barrieau in 1:55.4 for owner-trainer George Riley. Heart And Soul was first to the front before releasing Flash In The Pang (Ken Murphy) to the lead at the :27.4 opening quarter. Heart And Soul then retook the lead en route to the half in :57.1 before feeling first-over pressure from Noudidnt Blue Chip (Dowling) heading to three-quarters in 1:26.3. Barrieau and Heart And Soul fought off that challenger, then repelled a three-wide advance from Mystery Phil (Adam Merner) in the stretch. Jeb (Hughes) rallied to complete the triactor.

The top-class victory capped off a three-win day for Barrieau. Earlier in the card, he scored with his own trainee Perfect Mile in a lifetime best 1:57.4, and then came back midway through the day to win with Dividend Day in 1:59.4 for Fred Paynter.
