Track Record Falls At Georgian
Georgian Downs punters definitely showed faith in a fledgling Kadabra colt during last night's sixth race. Even though the bay was sent away as the second post time choice
, it is safe to say that most of his backers probably didn't expect a track record performance.
The colt was the Emma Frieze-trained Hidden Message, a $16,000 yearling purchase which was making his fourth career start.
Having drawn Post 5 in the $8,500 event, the colt fired off the wings for driver Phil Hudon once the gate began to roll away.
In the midst of clearing to the lead at the :29.3 quarter pole, Hidden Message settled along the pylons shortly thereafter and went on to cut the middle fractions in :59.2 and 1:27.2.
Thick fog marred charting efforts at the top of the stretch, but it was evident Hudon and the colt were the best pair coming home, as they paced through the lane and went on to post a two-length victory in a life's best 1:58.1.
The time was three-fifths of a second faster than the previous two-year-old trotting colt and gelding track mark of 1:58.4, which was put in by Canadian Frontier and driver Jody Jamieson on August 21, 2007 in an Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots event.
