'Treasure' Cashes In ATSS; Governor's Plate Drawn

In control from the start, Treasureonthewater took top prize in the biggest race of the evening Tuesday (July 7) at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as part of Governor’s Plate week racing.

Brodie MacPhee was in the bike behind the Marc Campbell-trained trotter as she took the lead at the start in her $15,380 Atlantic Sires Stakes (ATSS) two-year-old trot division and cruised through splits of :32.3, 1:05 and 1:37 in progress to a 2:07.2. Her stablemate Galeowind was second while Mr Finlay Ridge recovered from an early break to finish third. Treasureonthewater is owned by Steve MacKenzie of Charlottetown.

Countyline Scott scored an upset in his career debut winning an $8,140 three-year-old division of the ATSS trot in 2:04.2 for driver David Dowling, trainer Blaine McKenna and owner Susanne MacKeigan. Second went to Dusty Lane Del with West River Ellie completing the triactor.

Mabou Ridge delivered as the favourite in the other three-year-old trot division winning in 2:00.4 for trainer-driver Mary Clare MacDonald and owner Arnold Rankin. His arch-rival Tequila Tuesday was second ahead of Go With Her.

Campbell had a training double on the card as talented Shadow Play filly Plain Jane destroyed the first race of the program in her career debut in 1:57.3 by 25-lengths for owner Leigh Gavin.

MacPhee had three driving wins on the card as he also scored with Windemeredontuworry in the $2,150 top overnight trot for trainer Norris Rogers and in the finale with Much Adoo in 1:58 for trainer Ron Matheson. Windemeredontuworry's victory also lowered the track record for aged trotting stallions, winning in a 1:58 mile to best the previous record of 2:00.3 set by Glencove Carter.

After scorching the oval in his Governor's Plate elimination, Avatar J will have to leave on the grandstand side in the 52nd Governor's Plate final, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, on Saturday night after post positions were drawn Tuesday evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The Danny MacDonald-trained pacer drew the outside of the gate in the official post-position draw for the $25,000 finale of Governor's Plate Week racing for owners Dean Larkin and Jody Sanderson. Gilles Barrieau guided the American Ideal pacer to a 1:53 victory in Sunday afternoon elimination action.
