Glider Man Takes Top Trot
The betting public was all over Glider Man in Thursday’s $2,500 feature race at the Charlottetown Driving Park, and the gelding didn’t let down his army of backers.
Glider Man survived a first-over journey and simply drew away from foes in the lane for driver Kenny Arsenault.
Away fourth in the early going, the five-year-old son of Yankee Glide-I Gotta Feelin watched Missionoftheheart cruise through first-half fractions of :29.2 and 1:00.2 before Glider Man went to work from first over. Glider Man worked his way to the lead while racing parked past the three-quarter pole in 1:31. He then used a :29.4 closing quarter to win by 3-1/2 lengths over Hop Up in 2:00.4. The show dough was earned by Star Photo.
Trainer Jennifer Doyle co-owns the trotter with Danny Birt of Vernon Bridge, PE. It was the fourth win of the season for the 14-time winner who is just shy of $100,000 in lifetime earnings.
Driver Jason Hughes enjoyed a two-win performance on the program, and that feat helped him to celebrate 1,500 career wins. He reached 1,500 wins thanks to a score with the Stephen Quinn-trained Watch Me Dance in 1:59.1.
