Rennison Triples On Inverness Opener

Trainer George Rennison's stable fired on all cylinders on Sunday afternoon's (June 28) Opening Day program at Inverness Raceway, with three of his four starters on the program finding their way to the winner's enclosure.

The Truro-based conditioner kicked off his hat trick in the opener with Sauble Bonnie ($3.50), who drew away late to beat P H Powerful by 8-1/4 lengths in 2:01.3 while in rein to Redmond Doucet. After sending Anne With An E to a fourth-place finish in the second, Rennison rebounded in the fourth when Lively Freddie ($3.20) and driver Rodney Gillis delivered a 7-length drubbing to OK Gladiator in 2:00.4.

Rennison and Doucet teamed up again in the sixth with Electric Syl ($6.20), who brushed to the fore up the backstretch and held off a late charge from Your Raider Boy in 2:02.

Rennison, who has amassed just over 500 training wins since beginning his career in 1996, is currently a joint second in the 2020 standings at Truro Raceway, trailing only Paul Langille.

The afternoon's featured event, a $1,250 winners-over pace carded as the finale on the eight-race program, saw Intended Royalty live up to prohibitive 1-20 billing with a pillar-to-post, 1:58.3 win over pocket rival Modern Best. Doucet completed a driving grand slam on the card, having driven the nine-year-old No Pan Intended gelding to the 36th win of his career for Randy and Edward Copley.

Inverness Raceway is slated to offer racing on Sunday afternoons and select Wednesdays through October, including a Canada Day (July 1) matinee to begin at 1 p.m. Atlantic time.
