First Training Win For Dupont
Marie-Hélène Dupont enjoyed a memorable evening on Friday (June 26) at Grand River Raceway as she scored her first career training win courtesy of four-year-old pacer Custom Cut.
Despite starting from the second tier, Custom Cut ($12) went straight to the front and led all the way in the second race for the mild upset over favourite Loaded Deck. With Tyler Moore in the sulky, the Shadow Play gelding won the $8,400 pace for non-winners of $30,000 by 2-1/2 lengths in a career-best 1:53.3. Larjon Lucky finished third.
The victory was Custom Cut's first in three starts while racing under Dupont's care. A six-time career winner, he is owned by Les Ecuries Dorleans Inc. of Repentigny, Que.
Dupont's first training triumph came in just her fifth start.
