Distinctiv Rusty led all the way in Truro Raceway's top class for the second week in a row, this time with fans back in the stands.

After going spectator-free for the first card of the meet due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Truro Raceway welcomed guests back on track Friday (June 12) to watch and wager on live Standardbred racing with health and safety guidelines in effect.

With Ryan Ellis in the bike for trainer George Rennison, favourite Distinctiv Rusty ($2.10) won the featured $1,675 Winners Over Pace in 1:56 flat. With the inside post advantage once again, he set panels of :28.3, :57.2 and 1:26.3 before widening his lead to 2-3/4 lengths. Rusty Riley followed in second and Catch Twenty Two came on for third.

The nine-year-old son of Rambaran is now two-for-two this year and extended his win streak, dating back to November 2019, to five. A career winner of 36 races and more than $80,000, Distinctiv Rusty is owned by Andrea and Ryder Matthews Rennison.

Socially distanced customers lined up at Truro Raceway's temporary outdoor betting windows.

Trainer/driver Paul Langille bookended the eight-race card with upset victories aboard the maiden-breaking three-year-old filly Woodmere Rollily ($20.10) and seven-year-old gelding Preceptor ($20.60). He also scored mid-card with the 14-year-old pacer Jazzmo ($5), who had gone winless in 25 starts last year.

I think this afternoon's race card at Truro was the first post-Covid sporting event held in North America in which spectators were allowed. Truro made history!
