Screen Test Takes Charlottetown Feature
Despite interference and moving three-wide at the halfway point, Screen Test had more than the field could handle when taking the $3,000 Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday (June 6).
Screen Test and driver Corey MacPherson settled into seventh early while heavily-favoured Rose Run Quest left from post 8 and cleared the lead past the quarter pole. Past the first quarter in :29.2, Screen Test pulled off the pylons and progressed towards the leader, but soon forced three-wide as Hes Marvelous carved his way off the pegs before a :59.2 half.
Remaining three high, Screen Test used outside lane to his advantage as he circled the field at the 1:28.2 three-quarters. He then opened on his foes to win by over six lengths in 1:56.2. Rose Run Quest settled for second while Creepin finished third.
Ron Gass trains Screen Test for owners Kickin Horse Stable of York and William Andrew.
Mick Dundee and owner-trainer-driver Don MacNeill used first-over tactics to win the $2,500 co-featured pace. The gelding wore down pacesetter Best To Hurst before surging forward in the lane to win in 1:57.2. Newcomer Kingofbrokenhearts finished second while Jetster was third.
Live racing continues next week at the historic capital oval with programs Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
