Harness racing is not on the docket for the 21st Winter Olympics, scheduled to kick off February 12, 2010 in Vancouver, BC, but that doesn't mean there will not be a close connection between the two ventures today

.

According to a report by the Truro Daily News, the Olympic Torch is passing through various Nova Scotia areas today, and, for a brief time, the flame will be as close as one can get to a harness racing jog cart.

The Truro Daily News article outlines the route that the flame will be taking today. One of the steps along the way will see the torch transported in a jog cart by Bob Piers. It was decided that the jog cart be incorporated into the festivities due to the significance jog carts and the harness racing industry has in the region.

After the brief trip in the jog cart, Piers will run with the torch and light a cauldron.

The flame’s stop is one of 189 along its 45,000-kilometre route to the games, the longest Olympic torch relay in history.
