Second Grant For Some Yonkers Grooms
The Standardbred Owners Association of New York has announced that it will be providing a second grant to qualified grooms -- those who have paddocked horses more than a threshold number of racing nights -- in order to further assist them during the shutdown of racing at Yonkers Raceway.
Last month, the SOANY provided a stipend of $400, and an additional payment of $400 is being issued this week.
“The SOANY is working collaboratively with government officials to move towards the resumption of racing at Yonkers Raceway. In the meantime, we recognize the economic hardships being faced by our grooms throughout this period,” said Joseph Faraldo, president of the SOANY.
“The grooms play a vital role in caring for our horses, and their continued hard work during the coming weeks will be vital as we quite literally try to get our horses back on track,” added Faraldo.
