Neil MacIntyre Passes

After a lengthy illness, Thomas Neil MacIntyre passed peacefully on April 26 at the age of 82.

MacIntyre, who was born and raised on a dairy farm in Ramsayville, Ont., graduated from Ottawa Technical High School and was employed with T.P. Crawford Ltd. for 43 years. In 1966, he married Audrey (née Boyd), and together they built their family home and horse stable near the Ottawa suburb of Manotick.

MacIntyre accumulated 96 wins as a driver, primarily competing in greater Ottawa at Rideau Carleton Raceway and Connaught Park. He recorded eight training wins from 1993 — when training records began being kept by Standardbred Canada — through 2009, when he harnessed his last winner at Rideau Carleton.

In addition to his wife, Audrey, MacIntyre was also survived by his children, Kevin (Tracy) and Karen (Darrell Warren); brother, Barry Lieff (Barb); and grandchildren, Morgan, Reid and Kelsey. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Thomas and Chloris MacIntyre; and brothers, Robert and Ronald.

A private graveside service will be held at Johnston's Corners Community Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Tubman Funeral Homes' Kars Chapel in Ottawa.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Research Centre of the Ottawa Hospital Foundation would be appreciated at 737 Parkdale Avenue, 1st Floor, Box 610, Ottawa, ON K1Y 1J8.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the friends and family of Neil MacIntyre.
