Bud Cianchette Passes

The well-known and popular Maine horseman Ival (Bud) Cianchette has died at 83

.

A veteran of 47 years in the sport, Bud was a USTA director for 13 years, from 1994 until 2007. He operated a breeding farm in Pittsfield, Maine, for 17 years, and served on the Maine Harness Racing Commission from 1970 to 1975 and was chairman and a key figure in developing the Maine Standardbred Breeders Stakes.

He also was president of the Maine Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association and a former ownership holder in Bangor Raceway. Bud was elected to the New England Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 2005, won the Maine Horsemen’s Distinguished Citizen Award, and was named Maine’s Distinguished Citizen in 1988, and the state’s Business Leader of the Year in 1990.
