Florida's Fabulous Fillies To Clash
The much anticipated rematch is all set for Wednesday evening, November 11 at The Isle Pompano Park and it should be a dandy
. The top pair of three year old trotting fillies in the Florida bred program, BKs Luv and Pearl Of Capri are set to do battle in Wednesday's 5th race in the $17,500 Hurricane Stakes.
"BKs Luv is a filly that's been steadily improving and she's really starting to look the part after taking that record of 1:56.3 on October 21 over older horses here," says trainer Mike Deters of the Anythings Possible-Luv To Trot miss owned by Fred Morosini of Deerfield Beach, FL. "Two starts ago here she was three wide for the final quarter and came home in 28 seconds. She's never been passed in the stretch and Tom Sells does a terrific job driving her. No doubt this should be one great match-up again with Pearl Of Capri."
All that Pearl Of Capri has done this year is compile a perfect five-race win streak in her three-year-old campaign, giving her the longest active win streak in harness racing at 15 straight. The homebred of Inge and Frank Smith by Famously-Jettas Pearl was the Florida program's two year old filly champion in 2008 and she's beaten BKs Luv in both meetings this year. Adding another win, however, is likely to test Pearl Of Capri much more than the 1:59.4 mark she took at The Isle Pompano Park on September 25.
"BKs Luv campaigned over the Summer at Tioga Downs and in her races there the situation wasn't the best for closers and the races there set up for her to only trot in about 2:00," Deters adds. "She's learned a great way of passing horses late in the mile. Win, lose or draw in this rematch with Pearl Of Capri on Wednesday evening I think she's the kind that will keep going on. She's a real treat and would be a pleasure for anyone to have in their barn."
Big Mid-Week Card
The Wednesday evening regular program at 7:05 p.m. also features the $33,425 Florida Stallion Stake for two year old trotting colts and geldings and the $17,500 Hurricane Stakes for Florida bred three year old colt and gelding trotters.
At 6:30 p.m., a pair of $22,388 purse non-wagering events will be staged for the Florida bred two year old filly trotters.
Monday Night's Hat Trick Boys
The Monday evening, November 9 card at The Isle Pompano Park featured some masterful driving by Wally Hennessey and Tom Sells as each of the veteran reinsmen turned in three win performances.
Among Hennessey's wins was a 1:58 life's mark score with claiming trotter Flowing Joey. The five year old gelding by Ilooklikemymom-Flowing Jody had been campaigning in Ontario at Georgian Downs and he won his Florida debut for trainer Bill Griffin and the Trot Time Farm ownership group of Savannah, GA. Sells was at his crafty best to time late stretch moves perfectly to get the nod from the photo finish camera with claiming trotter Pip's Affair for owner-trainer Dick Macomber and with claiming pacer Sphinx K for trainer Tony Catalono and owner John Giglio of Maybrook, NY.
Through November, post time at The Isle Pompano Park is 7:05 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening. To that schedule, Tuesday racing is added for December through March
at The Winter Capital Of Harness Racing.
