Morgan Joins $100 Million Club
On Monday, November 2 at Dover Downs, driver Tony Morgan joined an elite list of eight reinsmen which have steered their mounts to $100 million (U.S.) in
purses.
The momentous occasion came in a $26,000 Open pace. Domitian Hanover won the race, but the Morgan-driven Warning Zone finishing second, which sent the reinsman's money-wining into seven digits.
John Campbell is the all-leading money-winning driver with around $262 million (U.S.). The others with $100-million (U.S.) and more are Mike Lachance, Ron Pierce, Cat Manzi, David Miller, Luc Ouellette, Jack Moiseyev, and now Morgan.
Other special moments in Morgan's career include February 14, 2006 at Dover Downs, when he became the sixth driver in North America to reach the 10,000 win plateau. He currently ranks fourth on the continent and fifth in the world behind all-time leader veteran Heinz Wewering of Germany with 16,000 wins and North American leader Herve Filion, who has won more than 15,000 races. Cat Manzi is second with Dave Palone third, closely followed by Morgan.
In a career starting as a teenager, Morgan began at smaller tracks in the Midwest, then to the tough Chicago circuit before moving East to the Dover Downs meet in 2005.
Morgan has won the sport's Leading Dash-Win title three times. He led all drivers in wins in consecutive seasons, 1995 through 1997.
