Awards Doled Out In Truro

On Saturday (Feb. 15) Truro Raceway held its Annual Truro Harness Horse Owners Association (THHOA) Award Banquet at the Best Western Glengarry in Truro, NS.

Guest speaker at the event was Marc Campbell, the top driver in the history of Prince Edward Island harness racing. Marc did a great job providing a few stories and answering questions from the guests.

The THHOA President Arleen Gillis presented Lee Johnson a special thank you for the continued support that Wilsons’ Home Heating provides to Truro Raceway.

The Hubtown Horse Club was recognized; this was the first year for the club and it was very successful in bringing new people to the track.

Clayton Stevens and Elaine Shortliffe were presented with a plaque recognizing their retired pacing mare Kendal Courageous.

The Rev was recognized at the banquet as being the richest Maritime-Bred Racehorse, with a presentation made to Jeff, Melissa, Bob and Jean Skinner. The Rev (Western Paradise - Red Sea) was broke and trained at Truro Raceway by local horseman Danny Romo, who was also present for the presentation.

  • Most Improved Horse of the Year – Sinful Vito

  • Most Improved Mare of the Year – Elm Grove Maddy

  • Top Dash Driver (Over 100 Starts) – Dale Spence

  • Top Dash Driver (50 - 100 Starts) – Danny Romo

  • Top Dash Trainer (Over 100 Starts) – George Rennison

  • Top Dash Trainer (50 - 100 Starts) – Nick White

  • Rookie Driver of the Year – Jeff Ellis

  • Senior Horseperson of the Year – Dave Carey

  • Horsewoman of the Year – Andrea Rennison

  • Groom of the Year – Kaitlyn Wesley

  • Jr. Groom of the Year – Zachary Landry

  • Jim Chambers Sportsmanship Groom Award – Paisley MacCallum

  • Jim Chambers Sportsmanship Trainer Award – Adam Johnson

  • Jim Chambers Sportsmanship Driver Award – Paul Langille

  • Jim Chambers Sportsmanship Owner Award – Roseanne Langille

  • High Percentage Driver of the Year – Clare MacDonald

  • Owner of the Year Award – Andrea and Ryder Rennison
