Redemption For Absolut Seelster
After Power And Grace just got the better of her a fortnight ago, Thomas and Elizabeth Rankin's Absolut Seelster ($2.70) found her way back to the winner's enclosure with a 1:59 score in Wednesday's (Feb. 12) $11,500 Preferred 2 Handicap Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
The seven-year-old Angus Hall mare employed her customary tactics and sprinted to the fore to control a :29.3 first quarter over four rivals. She faced no pressure from there, rating comfortable middle splits of :59.2 and 1:28.4 before edging away to a two-length win in line to Colin Kelly. Sizzlen Hot Herbie (Natasha Day) lifted off flattening cover to narrowly take second over Sicario (Alfie Carroll), who was one-paced in the stretch off an easy pocket journey.
Benoit Baillargeon trains 34-time winner Absolut Seelster, who captured her third win in four tries this season.
Jennifer Pinkerton's Scene A Magician ($4.00) likewise wired his rivals in the $8,500 Preferred 3 trot, defeating Lets Leavem by three-quarters of a length in 2:00.2. Greg Dustin drove the six-year-old Daylon Magician gelding.
