Preferred Repeat For Toot Toot N
On the heels of a 1:54.3 triumph at the Preferred 3 level at Flamboro Downs eight days ago, Toot Toot N jumped up the class ladder for Team Hensley and came away victorious in Monday’s $11,500 Preferred 2 for horse and gelding pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
With co-owner Ed Hensley at the lines, Toot Toot N stormed to the front from Post 1 and successfully whacked out fractions of :28.1, :58.1 and 1:26.2 before using a :29.2 closing quarter to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Artistic Pick in 1:55.4. Bettors Western took home third prize.
Trainer Ashleigh Hensley co-owns the nine-year-old son of Gotta Go Cullen-Transportiamidfrew, who is now 2-for-3 this season. The 29-time winner has racked up more than $200,000 in lifetime earnings.
National Debt took home bragging rights in the $9,400 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers thanks to his 2:03.1 triumph in the affair contested at the distance of 1-1/16 miles.
Robert Shepherd got away third and held that position through the opening half while Levis Day carved out fractions of :28.1 and :57.3. Levis Day was still in charge at the three-quarter pole in 1:27.1, but National Debt was in hot pursuit from first over. National Debt kept digging and eventually got up to win by a neck over Levis Day. Third prize went to Mercenary.
Sent off as the odds-on favourite, the nine-year-old son of Allamerican Native-Our Inheritance improved his 2020 record to 2-1-0 from three starts. Colin Johnson trains the 56-time winner for owner Francois Morin of Beauceville, QC. The lion’s share of the purse pushed his overall earnings to $544,952.
