Rockin Mystery, Campbell Shine At Fraser
Rod Therres trainee Rockin Mystery rolled clear of her competition to post a seven-length blowout in the $30,000 Lady Cloverdale Final at Fraser Downs on Sunday (Feb. 2), an afternoon which also saw driver Brandon Campbell win eight of the 12 races on the card.
Driver Allan Molloy motored Rockin Mystery to the front and opened three lengths on odds-on favourite Hottieonthehorizon heading past a :27 first quarter. Mrs Suhwiggins, driven by Brandon Campbell, raced third as Rockin Mystery decelerated towards a :57.3 half. Up the backside the four-year-old Mystery Chase mare accelerated towards three-quarters in 1:25.2 and sped away from her foes through the stretch, stopping the clock in 1:54 with Mrs Suhwiggins settling for second. Hottieonthehorizon faltered to third.
Co-owned by Therres with Blair Miller, Rockin Mystery won her 13th race from 30 starts, earning $219,165. She paid $13.20 to win.
Despite finishing second in the afternoon feature, Brandon Campbell started and completed the afternoon. His eight-win charge started in the opener with Gotta Have Faith ($6.40) and continued midway through the card with Star Flight ($5.40) and Ima Dude ($2.70), conditioned by Campbell.
Campbell then steered two more of his own pupils to victory, with Chase The Ace ($4.00) and Betterbegoodtome ($3.10) both winning their respective races by two-and-a-half lengths. The afternoon ended for Campbell with a natural hat trick—Hotpieceoface ($2.40), Rock N Roll Dragon ($2.40) and Bad Moon Horizon ($3.00) won the final three races on the card respectively. Rock N Roll Dragon’s victory gave Campbell four training wins on the day.
