Hoerdt Takes Eight At Fraser Downs
When it came to winning races, there was no stopping trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt during Friday’s card at Fraser Downs.
Hoerdt started off his evening on the right foot thanks to a front-stepping triumph with Spiderdman. The gelding, who hails from Hoerdt’s barn, drew clear to win by 5-1/4 lengths in a sharp clocking of 1:56.1.
That one’s stablemate, Outlawstandndelivr, brushed to the lead past the quarter pole and went on to win by 4-1/4 lengths in 1:56.1. Hoerdt then clicked with Thankyaverymuch in a time of 1:55.4 in Race 10.
The final winner from his own barn was Cusdmagicdragon, who rallied for a 1:55.1 triumph in the $10,800 feature pace. The five-year-old daughter of Custard The Dragon-Rockumentary, who was sent off at odds of 9-1, rallied past tempo-setter Tahiti Seelster to win the main event.
In addition to sending out four winners from his own stable, Hoerdt managed to find his way to victory lane four more times during the 12-race program.
He rallied Maylah to a 1:57.4 decision for trainer Donna Cunningham before nabbing a win with Pureform Mr Toffee in 1:57.4 for trainer Travis Tracey. He then went coast-to-coast in a claiming tilt with Now Playing for trainer Brent Bodor before capping off his eight-win performance with the Ashley Ederer trainee Rush And A Brush in the finale.
The eight driving wins helped Hoerdt improve his yearly totals to 25-11-8 from just 60 appearances. Those impressive stats equate to a lofty UDR of .562 with the first month of the season officially in the books. The 2019 campaign went down a career-best year for the Beaumont, Alberta horseman who racked up 247 wins in addition to purse earnings in excess of $1.7 million.
