Red Shores Racing Wraps Up Saturday
Myles Heffernan Sr., and Hes Marvalous have completely reinvented their racing tactics in the past weeks and will look for one more score on the final card of the winter meet Saturday (Feb. 1) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 11-dash season closer has a 12:30 p.m. first race post time on Saturday with the $2,950 top event lining up in Race 10. Hes Marvalous is saddled with Post 5 in the field of six, and Myles Heffernan Sr., will again pick up the lines for trainer Myles Heffernan Jr., and owner Jackie Heffernan of Summerville. The seven-year-old son of Delmarvalous is known for being quick off the wings at the start but his two most recent victories came as he sat in a hole and brushed home the final portion of the race.
Former top class champion Creepin leaves from Post 6 with David Dowling driving for trainer Jim Quinn and last week’s runner-up Winter Blast has Post 4 with Jason Hughes in the seat from the Jennifer Doyle stable.
Race analyst Les MacIsaac will look for Hes Marvalous to replicate his impressive victory last week.
“Hes Marvalous has always liked the front but his new-found rallying style has produced two wins in the past three weeks and that speaks volumes for his versatility,” MacIsaac said. “With his current form as good as it is the road to the winner's circle goes through him.”
Other top class entrants include Silverhill Buddy (Marc Campbell), Rockin Indy (Adam Merner) and Pictonian Storm (Corey MacPherson).
The final card of the winter season will see some special promotional plays as all live customers who purchase a ticket in Race 1 will receive a $2 wagering voucher for Race 2. The same holds true in the Race 10 feature as any tickets purchased on that race will give the customer a $2 wagering ticket on the Race 11 finale. When you tag your ticket with the Wild Horses ticket, you have a chance to win a $25 jackpot. Customers can also play the Pick 5 for a chance to win $500.
Race 4 is the Red Shores Charlottetown Pace as undefeated Dustylane Zambucca will put her perfection to the test from Post 7. MacPherson is in the driver’s seat for trainer Stephen Gass of Cornwall. The morning line favourite in the race is Post 6 starter Dapple Apple (Hughes) from the Ambyr Campbell barn.
