Power And Grace Strikes Again
Lormer and John McClure's Power And Grace ($12.90) proved best in London yet again on Wednesday night (Jan. 29), kicking cover en route to a 2:00 victory in the $11,500 Preferred 2 Handicap Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Power And Grace got away last in the field of seven, but inherited sixth due to a break in stride from Gold Edition (Pat Hudon) just after pacesetter Absolut Seelster (Scott Young) clicked off a :29.2 first quarter. With a circuit to go, Lormer McClure angled Power And Grace second-over behind the advancing Sizzlen Hot Herbie (Scott Coulter), and the pair were towed into contention through middle splits of 1:00.1 and 1:30.
Just three lengths off the lead a quarter from home, Power And Grace was pointed three-wide into the final turn to make her move. The five-year-old Holiday Road mare reached the line in the final strides, collaring Absolut Seelster to win by a half length. Sicario (Alfie Carroll) rallied off third-over cover to take third.
Power And Grace, now a 16-time winner, earned her second win this season at the Preferred 2 ranks after opening 2020 with a pair of third-place finishes.
