Stunning Mile For Red Bugler
If the phone in the Donald and Sheila Anness household hasn’t been ringing off the hook in recent weeks, it certainly will be now thanks to the exploits of their homebred
, Red Bugler.
The two-year-old gelded son of Cammibest-My Friend Flicka, who was a 1:53.3 winner at Woodbine Racetrack on October 19, lowered his speed record to 1:51.3 in a $21,000 conditioned event over the Rexdale, ON oval on Monday night.
Keith Oliver tucked into the three-hole with Red Bugler as the starting gate raced away, but he had the Rheal Bourgeois trainee on the move as soon as the field hit the backstretch. He was stride-for-stride with the leader at the head of the lane before driving away to win in a clocking that was just three-fifths of a second shy of the 1:50.4 Canadian record for two-year-old pacing geldings on a seven-eighths mile track. That record was established by Annieswesterncard in an elimination of the Metro in 2008.
The victory was the eighth of the season in 10 starts for the Anness’ homebred, who has banked $41,125 to date.
