Sintra Maintains Momentum At Mohawk
Off at odds of 1-5, Sintra rolled off cover around the final turn and darted to his fourth consecutive victory in the $36,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Jan. 25).
Away third through a :28.1 first quarter, Sintra sat while Nirvana Seelster led the field unchallenged towards a :58 half. Pocket-sitter East End pulled first over into the final turn and supplied brief cover to Sintra through three-quarters in 1:26. Driver Jody Jamieson angled Sintra wider into the stretch and took a half-length lead while chased by Points North kicking off cover from third over. Points North continued to give pursuit to Sintra but fell short by three-quarter lengths at the finish of the 1:53.4 mile with Easy Lover Hanover taking fourth.
Owned by Michael Guerriero, Kelly Waxman, Nunzio Vena and Frank Cirillo, Sintra won his 28th race from 61 starts, earning $1,180,436. Dave Menary conditions the seven-year-old Mach Three gelding who paid $2.20 to win.
