Scratch From Tonight's Breeders Crown
The eight divisions of harness racing’s elite preparing to compete in the $5.1 million Breeders Crown events tonight at Woodbine dropped by one when two-year-old filly pace contender
Slimsplace, [race six, post seven] was scratched from the $628,178 final.
“She just has a run-of-the mill virus,” said trainer and owner Jeff Gillis. “But she is a two-year-old and you just can’t take chance with them. When she spiked a temperature earlier in the week she responded to treatment, but as soon as we stopped treating her it spiked again. I don’t want to hurt her.”
Though the Breeders Crown races allow an also eligible, the AE 1, Native Doll, had already returned to the U.S. after failing to make the final. Therefore the freshman filly pace will go with nine and all also eligibles have been released in all races.
The Score will air a special three-hour presentation across Canada of this 25th anniversary (26th edition) of the Breeders Crown, from 8:00 - 11:00 pm ET and will telecast seven Crown races live.
