Top Trot To Top Expectations
The betting public had a lot of faith in Top Expectations despite her outside starting spot in Monday’s $34,000 Preferred Handicap Trot, and the classy mare came through with flying colours.
Sylvain Filion got away fifth with the Ben Baillargeon-trained Top Expectations while Hemi Seelster motored to the lead and carved out fractions of :27.1, :56.3 and 1:25. Top Expectations popped off the rail and came first over on the way to the half, and she was second and driving while racing on the rim at the three-quarter pole.
Top Expectations sustained her drive and kicked home in :28 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over stable mate P L Jill in a sharp clocking of 1:53.2. Hemi Seelster hung around to finish third in the nine-horse affair.
Sent off as the 4-5 choice, the four-year-old daughter of Cantab Hall-Exceed Expectation nabbed her 10th win of the season for owner Daniel Plouffe of Bromont, QC. The 16-time winner pushed her lifetime earnings to $532,677 with the win.
