Grand River End Of Season Reminders

With just two cards remaining on its 2009 race calendar, Grand River Raceway in Elora, Ont. has issued the following reminder of its remaining events

Made In Ontario Night - Draw
The track’s fifth annual Made In Ontario Night will highlight racing action on closing night, October 26. Divisions for Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots horses will be contested for $12,000. The draw for this card is Thursday, October 22, and entries must be declared by 11:00 a.m. For condition information, click here.

Geek Squad Fall Championship
More than 80 Geek Squad finalists will compete for a trip for two to Las Vegas in the last of three Geek Squad Championships totaling $5,000 in cash and prizes. The championship on October 22 consists of seven tasks — a mix of trivia and handicapping — with the final two tasks, Sudden Death Trivia and the Spelling Horse featured on the Tarmac Show. OHHA Handicapping Contest
The final leg of the OHHA Handicapping Tournament, presented by the Ontario Harness Horse Association and hosted by Grand River Raceway, wraps up on October 22.

The winner of the free contest wins the lion’s share of $400 in prize money and automatically advances to the $25,000 (est) TROT Canada National Handicapping Championship (TCNHC). In addition, all entries from October 15 and October 22 will be combined and one player will be randomly drawn to fill OHHA’s third spot at the coveted event. John Perron of Guelph, Ont. won the October 15 event.

The three OHHA Handicapping Contest winners will join Grand River’s representatives — Gary Montgomery, Pat Salter and Mike Hanhan — in an all-expenses paid trip to Ottawa November 7 – 9 for the $25,000 showdown. Click here for more information.

Hallowhinny
Grand River Raceway’s annual pre-Halloween community event wraps up the 2009 race season on October 26. The spooktacular event is presented by Grand River Raceway staff and horsemen and features a mini Halloween carnival, costume parade on the tarmac and Name The Foal Contest. Festivities run 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. in the paddock and supervised children of all ages are welcome. The event is free and no registration is required. For more information, click here.
