Save My Ashes On A Roll
Since returning from a bout of sickness near the end of August, the Ely Iversen-trained Save My Ashes has been on quite a roll at Georgian Downs
. In fact, he’s been unbeatable over the Innisfil oval in his last three trips, including back-to-back triumphs in the top trotting class.
Save My Ashes’ latest tally came in Tuesday evening’s $15,000 Preferred – an effort in which he rallied from just off the pace en route to stopping the clock in 1:55.3 with driver Robert Shepherd in tow.
Shepherd was in no hurry with the four-year-old son of Andover Hall, who was allowed to sit fifth through early fractions of :27.3 and :56.4. He was still fifth, though on the move, at the three-quarter pole in 1:25.4. When pacesetter Mystic Conquest began to tire Save My Ashes swung off cover and summoned up a :29.1 final quarter which was more than enough speed to post the win. Mystic Conquest, who was sent off as the 6-5 favourite, was second best with third prize going to J S Chisum.
Iversen holds the papers on the 11-time winner, who has put together a 6-3-3 record in 27 assignments this season. The $7,500 payday pushed this year’s earnings over $144,000, while his lifetime total climbed over $215,000.
