Sporty Tori Storms Through London
The sophomore Sportswriter filly Sporty Tori slid to the top and turned away all rivals when scooting to a 1:58.4 blowout in the $8,600 featured fillies and mares pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Leaving from post 6, Sporty Tori secured command from Woodmere Rio moving to a :29 first quarter. She then endured first-over pressure from Moneymakehersmile through fractions of 1:00 and 1:28.4 before trainer-driver Gordon McKnight unleashed the 6-5 favourite. Around the final turn Sporty Tori opened six lengths on her competition and strolled to a seven-and-a-half length victory over Woodmere Rio with Latte Grande taking third.
Owned by M&S Racing Stable Inc., Sporty Tori won her 10th race from 14 starts, earning $59,090. She paid $4.60 to win.
Earlier on the card Significance took her competition wire to wire in the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace. The three-year-old daughter of Mach Three took control heading to a :29 first quarter and parked 1-2 favourite Sodwana Bay as she marched first over towards a :58.3 half. Sodwana Bay lost ground going to three-quarters in 1:27.1 and continued to pursue Significance through the turn and in the stretch, but finished one-and-a-quarter lengths behind the winner in a 1:57.2 mile. Ride Away Shark finished third.
Owned by Glenview Livestock Ltd. and Cheryl Cherry, Significance won her 12th race from 21 starts, earning $95,470. Andrew McCabe conditions the $6.50 winner while Colin Kelly sat in the sulky.
