Preferred Winners Step Up Their Game
Things didn’t go very well for Always N The Money and Bettor BB last week, but it was a much different story on Monday evening for the pacers as they both found their way to victory lane following Preferred scores over the London, Ont. oval.
Always N The Money, who was seventh in his previous outing, came first-over in Monday’s assignment and drew clear to win in 1:56.2 for driver Alfie Carroll and trainer Jodie Cullen.
Sent off as the even-money favourite, Always N The Money got away fourth before commencing his first-over bid on the way to the mid-way point. Littlebitaswagger whacked out fractions of :28 and :58.2 before Always N The Money took charge at the three-quarter pole in 1:27. Always N The Money then used a :29.2 closing panel to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Blue Moose. Shippen Out was third.
Jodie and Ron Cullen of Dundas, Ont., share ownership on the nine-year-old son of Always A Virgin-Abbeycrombie. It was his fifth win of the season and the 36th of his career. The veteran is closing in on $320,000 in lifetime earnings.
Bettor BB was sixth in last week’s trip to London, but he stepped up his game and posted a 1:55.3 victory in the $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers.
Brett MacDonald got away fourth with the Craig Barss trainee while Hidden Potential shot to the top and carved out panels of :28.2, :58 and 1:26. Reel made a first-over move on the way to the half, and Bettor BB latched onto the cover. Reel and Hidden Potential battled to the three-quarter pole before being overtaken by Bettor BB. The winner used a :29.1 closing quarter to prevail by a head over Reel. Mr Mach Jimmy rounded out the Trifecta ticket.
Sent off at odds of 6-1, Bettor BB won for the ninth time this season and for the 12th time in his career. Barss shares ownership on the four-year-old son of Bettors Delight-U All BB with Nurko Sokolovic of Waterloo, Ont. The victory pushed his earnings over $100,000.
