Buttermilk Hanover Reaches At Flamboro
Buttermilk Hanover ($4.50) passed all five of her rivals in Wednesday's (Oct. 23) featured $10,500 Preferred 2 Pace for fillies and mares at Flamboro Downs, narrowly collaring pacesetter Sudden Passing for a 1:54 score.
Away last in the field of six, Buttermilk Hanover angled second-over with five-eighths to go and was towed into third behind clear pacesetter Sudden Passing (Brett MacDonald) upon reaching the backstretch on the second circuit. After Sudden Passing clicked off spirited fractions of :27.2, :56 and 1:24.2, her lead began to shrink on the final turn.
Buttermilk Hanover closed to within 2-1/2 lengths a furlong from home, and she lunged late to reel in an all-out Sudden Passing by a neck. Significance (Colin Kelly), who provided live cover to Buttermilk Hanover through the middle stages of the race, stayed on to finish third, beaten two lengths.
Melissa Lamoureux trains 20-time winner Buttermilk Hanover — a winner in two of her last three Preferred 2 outings — for 8113564 Canada Ltd. and Jeffrey Boyd.
In the sub-featured $8,500 Preferred 3 for distaff pacers, Filly Forty Seven ($3.10) converted at odds-on, sustaining an uncovered push to duel down Lo Hold A Moonbean before parrying a late threat from Casino Classic to win by a length in 1:55.2. Driver Travis Cullen co-owns the five-year-old Proven Lover mare with Paul Sanders, and Rachel Andrew trains the 26-time winner.
