Ole Jack Magic Jets In London
Sitting the pocket, odds-on favourite Ole Jack Magic jolted by pacesetter Avuncular to take the $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Driver J Harris protected position from the pylons with Ole Jack Magic moving to the first turn but yielded control to Avuncular heading to a :28 first quarter. Nebraska Jack, starting from the second tier, tipped first over from third heading to a :58.3 half but stalled up the backstretch nearing three-quarters in 1:28.
Losing ground into the stretch, Nebraska Jack left room for Ole Jack Magic to pop pocket and surge past Avuncular to deliver by a half length in 1:59.3. Azucar kicked from second over for third.
An eight-year-old gelding by Kadabra, Ole Jack Magic won his sixth race from 32 starts this season and his 27th from 161 overall, earning $388,213. Boyd Wilson conditions the $3.20 winner for owner Harold Wilson.
Woodmere Wyldstyle went wire to wire in the race prior to take the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace in 1:56.2.
Starting from the pylon post, Woodmere Wyldstyle pushed for the front while even-money favourite Mary Goodnight sat second to a :28 first quarter. Top Royal soon angled first over from fourth moving into the stretch first time and ranged towards the pacesetter approaching a :58.1 half.
Top Royal continued to press Woodmere Wyldstyle pacing to three-quarters in 1:26.2 as Mary Goodnight edged second over from third spinning into the stretch. Woodmere Wyldstyle gained a length on Top Royal with the inside advantage and clung to command at the finish with Top Royal surging late but finishing a neck behind in second. Mary Goodnight took third.
Co-owned by trainer Gordon McDonnell with Douglas Good, Woodmere Wyldstyle won her seventh race in 32 starts this season and her eighth in 63 overall, earning $85,792. Tyler Borth drove the four-year-old Articulator mare who paid $10.00 to win.
