How To: Reading Yearling Pedigrees
Yearling season is one of the most exciting times of the year! For most owners, breeders and trainers, reading pedigrees is as easy as 1-2-3. For some, understanding how to read a yearling's pedigree can be very complicated. From understanding stallion jurisdictions to first and second dams to even knowing where to find the yearling's gender, foaling date and stake engagements, all of this information can be very confusing to someone new to the business.
Standardbred Canada has produced a 'How To Read A Yearling Pedigree' video tutorial to help guide you through understanding all of the information that can be found on a pedigree page in the sales catalogue and make your yearling shopping much easier!
Free Understanding Pedigrees and Conformation workshops will take place in the sales arena from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the LSYS on Saturday & Sunday. The sessions will teach you how to decipher all of the valuable information on a yearling’s pedigree page and offer information and a demonstration on what you should look for when evaluating a horse’s physical attributes.
There is no cost to attend but seating is limited, so please register by contacting Kathy Wade at [email protected] or call 905-858-3060 and ask for the Member & Stakeholder Relations Department. You can also sign up at the Welcome Centre at the sale.
