Lets Leavem Lands In London
Driver Travis Henry sent Lets Leavem to the top and kept rolling in progress to a 1:57.3 victory in the $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Nebraska Jack, the 9-5 favourite, left for the front from the pylon post but forfeited control to Lets Leavem past a :28.3 opening quarter. The betting choice continued to chase Lets Leavem as the nine-year-old Angus Hall gelding widened his lead through splits of :57.4 and 1:27.1 in progress to a four-and-a-half length victory. Nebraska Jack held second from All Out Henry in third.
Owned and trained by Sarah Town, Lets Leavem won his seventh race from 27 starts this season and his 30th from 203 overall, earning $244,807. He paid $6.70 to win.
War Filly fronted the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace when holding off a first-over charge from Mary Goodnight as the odds-on favourite in 1:56.3.
Leaving from post 3, War Filly grabbed control from Casino Classic heading to a :27.1 opening quarter. Mary Goodnight, positioned fourth, pulled first over moving to a :57.2 half and drew alongside War Filly to take a narrow lead past three-quarters in 1:26.1. But War Filly reclaimed control with the inside advantage circling the final turn and saved enough ground cutting the corner to hold off a final lunge from Mary Goodnight by a neck. Casino Classic held third.
A seven-year-old mare by Mach Three, War Filly won her seventh race from 34 starts this season and her 24th from 163 overall, earning $218,018. She races for owners Bradley Powell and John Powell, who also conditions the $6.70 winner. Colin Kelly sat in the sulky.
