Catch Twenty Two Fires At Truro
The odds-on Catch Twenty Two ($3.00) raced in the pocket and fired to victory in the final quarter to capture Truro Raceway’s featured $1,675 Winners-Over Pace on Thanksgiving Day (Monday, Oct. 14).
Catch Twenty Two and his trainer/driver, Darren Crowe, got away second after a rail start and held their position through the fractions, which were cut in :28, :58.1 and 1:27.2.
The six-year-old gelded son of Roll With Joe would go on to prevail in the 1:58.2 mile, which saw a bevy of horses with legitimate shots in deep stretch.
The Ernie Laffin-driven Stars Above, who had cut the mile, finished just three quarters of a length back in second. Spirited closer Brookdale Jim, who was in rein to Bernard McCallum and had fired from fifth late, rallied for third and finished just one length behind Catch Twenty Two. Nomatterwhen, who had come flying home late for Todd Trites, finished fourth, one and a half lengths in arrears to the victory. Heartland Eclipse and Robert Laffin picked up the final purse cheque.
Catch Twenty Two is owned by William Shearer (of Brookfield, NS), Robert Siteman (Central Onslow, NS) and Charles Piper Jr. (Lower Sackville, NS).
