Brookdale Buster Best At Inverness
Despite sloppy going on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 13) at Inverness Raceway, Brookdale Buster ($4.20) lived up to favoured billing in the day's $1,570 winners-over pace, pulling pocket a quarter from home and prevailing narrowly in 2:02.4.
Andrew MacLean landed the eight-year-old Western Terror gelding in the pocket from post two behind the pole-sitting Buttons (Joseph Poirier), and they drafted through early splits of :30.1 and 1:00.1 that were prompted by the first-over Your Raider Boy (Travis MacLean). When Your Raider Boy's uncovered bid ended early on the second circuit, Brookdale Buster had room to vacate the pocket and duelled to a head-stretch lead. After putting away Buttons, Brookdale Buster dug in to hold a late-closing R Es Aiden (Rodney Gillis) at bay by a half length. Buttons held third.
It was the 22nd career win and second in a row for Lloyd MacLean trainee Brookdale Buster, who races for Julie MacPherson and Ryder MacLean.
