Repeat Winners In Fraser Stakes
Two- and three-year-olds were the stars of the show Thursday evening at Fraser Downs as round two of the Mary Murphy Breeders Stake for sophomore fillies went postward following a set of divisions in the second leg of the Robert Millbank Memorial Breeders Stakes for freshman pacing colts and geldings.
Outlaw C My Shadow quarter pole-moved to the lead in the in his $15,000 assignment, and once he cleared he didn’t let anyone past him.
Trained and driven by Connie Colthammer, the gelding laid down middle panels of :58.4 and 1:27.2 before roaring home in :28 to win by 5-1/4 lengths over Sporty Dragon in 1:55.2. Wits Beach took home the show dough.
Sent off as the 1-5 favourite, the son of Shadow Play-Grand Slam Woman won for the second time from just six assignments. He’s banked close to $15,000 to date for owner Outlaw West Stable of Falun, AB.
West Coast Beach wired up the foes he squared off with in the second division, and in doing so he kept his perfect record intact.
Trainer/driver Rod Therres, who co-owns the gelding with Veikko Pajunen, hustled him to the front and successfully whacked out intervals of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:27.2 before using a :28.3 closing panel to win by a head over an odds-on Major Custard in 1:56. All This was a distant third.
The homebred son of Sunshine Beach-Village Janus is now 2-for-2 in his career. He’s banked $15,000 along the way.
Hottieonthehorizon was an off-the-pace winner in last week’s opening leg, but this week she employed front-end tactics to win in 1:56.3.
Kelly Hoerdt moved her to the front in the second quarter, and once she cleared it was all over. She sailed through middle fractions of :59.2 and 1:27.4 before kicking home in :28.4 to win by 3-1/2 lengths over Crystal Dragon. Hotpieceofpace was third.
Sent off as the 1-9 favourite, the Richard Lancaster trainee won for the eighth time this season and for the ninth time in her career.
Ocean Wind also managed to repeat in her $15,000 assignment for partner Rod Therres and Veikko Pajunen.
After posting a 1:56.1 triumph last week, the daughter of Sunshine Beach-Village Janus used gate-to-wire tactics to win in 1:57 this time. Trainer/driver Rod Therres hustled her through fractions of :28.4, :59.2 and 1:28.1 before kicking home in :28.4 to win by a head over Mrs Suhwiggins. Out Of Left Field rounded out the Trifecta ticket.
Sent off as the 4-5 favourite, the homebred won for the fifth time from nine starts this season. The seven-time winner pushed her earnings over $70,000 to date with the victory.
