Majian Tango Mows Down Open Foes
Circling four foes during the mile Majian Tango reached up in the stretch drive to win the featured Open Trot Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $2,300 Open trot class saw Star Photo strike the lead and lay down healthy splits of :30, 1:00.1 and 1:30.2 while Majian Tango and driver Jim Ripley commenced their move from fifth place in the field of sixth.
The five-year-old Tad The Stud gelding found himself just two lengths back at the head of stretch in the middle of unleashing a :29.1 personal closing quarter to best the field by half-a-length in 2:00.2. Star Photo was second with Hop Up finishing third.
Ripley trains Majian Tango for owner Marylea Ripley of Amherst, NS. The win was number four of the season and number 17 lifetime for the trotter from just 50 career starts.
The Canadian Police Knowledge Network 2019 pace saw a front stepping Bayside Alexis easily win the $1,400 event by three-and-a-half lengths in 1:59. Driver Kenny Arsenault engineered the winning score for owner-trainer Scott Dunn of Montague.
The three-year-old daughter of Westwardho Hanover was the heavy favourite in the class as she finished on top of the Trifecta that included Sandhill Star and Better Be In Love.
