Freddie Set For Red Shores Open
He may be relegated to the outside post position, but Freddie will try to make the most of it in the Thursday evening (Oct. 3) Open Trot at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash Thursday card will send its first race to post at 6:30 p.m. The $2,300 Open Trot will line up for Race 8.
Walter Cheverie has picked up the catch drive on Freddie in the six-horse affair, as trainer Marc Campbell has elected to drive Post 2 starter and stablemate Buckaroo, who has been assessed at odds of 6-1 on the morning line. Cheverie will be looking to steer Freddie to his third consecutive victory. The duo will start from Post 6. Freddie notched convincing, open-length victories in his last two starts for owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston.
Star Photo, who is scheduled to start from Post 3, has yet to see the winner’s circle since Old Home Week, but has recorded five consecutive top-three finishes in the weeks since then for driver Jason Hughes. Former Open Trot winner Majian Tango will start from Post 5 for trainer-driver Jim Ripley.
Race analyst Les MacIsaac has sided with Freddie this week.
“Freddie gets the outside post again, but when you've been as dominant as he has, that's the price you pay,” MacIsaac said. “They'll beat him again eventually, but there's no real case to be made that it will happen tonight.”
The field will also feature Scary Good (who is to be driven by Gilles Barrieau) and Hop Up (Corey MacPherson).
The $1,400 CPKN Stanhope Workshop 2019 Pace will take to the track for Race 7. Bayside Alexis is favoured in the field of eight fillies and mares, and Kenny Arsenault will drive the lass from Post 1 for owner-trainer Scott Dunn of Montague. Other top entries include Good Luck Kathy (Earl Smith) and Better Be In Love (Campbell).
Customers can enjoy several on track promotions when they play the horses. The Pick 5 on races 6 – 10 will offer a $500 prize, while any customer who tags their ticket for an additional $2 has a chance to win a $25 jackpot on that race with the Wild Horses ticket.
The annual Drive for Charity has wrapped up for the season. The official cheque presentations from the businesses and drivers to the charities will take place on October 12 during the Atlantic Breeders Crown weekend presented by the City of Charlottetown.
