‘The Reverend’ Adjusting To New Role

Most reverends are busiest on the weekends, and that has certainly applied to Reverend Hanover, who recently joined the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society.

This past Saturday morning he participated in his first trail ride, the Hoof Beat Challenge at the Sunrise Therapeutic Riding Centre in Puslinch, Ont. (photo to the right). With OSAS’s Joanne Colville in the saddle, he adapted to the new mode of travelling very well. He, along with Calamar (Debi O’Brien-Moran) and Hiltons Hot Stuff (Emma Christoforou) were the Standardbred representatives at the popular event.

Later that evening he was OSAS’s meet and greet horse at Woodbine Mohawk Park, where he delighted patrons entering the racetrack to watch the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Semi Finals.

Sunday found the $551,000 winner hooked up to a sulky for the first time in almost two years, as he was jogged to prepare for next weekend’s OSS Grasssroots Finals where he’ll be giving OSS contest finalists a ride around the Campbellville oval.

“He’s been an absolute delight since he came to OSAS,” noted Colville. “He was always a professional on the track and he behaves that way off the track as well.”

I am "a Rev" who is adjusting to a new role - I am officially retiring today.
I hope Reverend Hanover and I both thrive in our new adventures.
