Blacky Black Back On Top
After fellow alliteratively-named Rusty Riley broke his win streak last week, Blacky Black was back to his old tricks on Saturday (Sept. 28) at Northside Downs.
A field of five pacers contested the $1,400 Winners Over Pace on Saturday, and co-favoured Blacky Black did not disappoint his backers. Barry Bates pointed Blacky Black to the front as the wings of the gate folded and dared his rivals to beat him. Off sharp fractions of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:28.3, none of Blacky Black's foes could get to within a length as he tripped the timer in 1:58.3. Pictonian Fancypas (Gerry Snow) stayed second the whole mile with the other co-favourite Southwind Ricardo (Harold LeBlanc) in the show spot.
Owned, trained and driven by Bates, Blacky Black (The Panderosa - Black Brinny) picked up the fifth win of his five-year-old campaign and sports a 5-1-0 record in his last seven starts.
