Quebec Regional Fair Finals Set

The Quebec Regional Fair Finals will take place on Sunday (Sept. 29) at Hippodrome 3R with all 12 races devoted to the Fair Finals.

This is the second straight year that the Quebec Jockey Club has played host to the Quebec Regional Fair Finals at Hippodrome 3R.

It was in 1983 that the beginnings of what would later become the "Regional Circuit of Quebec Horse Racing" was first formed. At that time, a dozen amateur race tracks were operating in Quebec, but independently.

The goal of grouping these tracks and having an organized Fair Circuit race season came from Paul-Andre Lavigne, Francois Parr and Wilfrid Flora, who founded the Provincial Association of Amateur Racing Clubs Inc.

The Regional Circuit finals are a culmination of a successful season in 2019 that saw 15 events this summer. The 12 races will feature the finals for two- and three-year-old trotters and pacers plus special finals for four-year-olds and older horse divisions. Each of the 12 finals has a purse of $4,000.

Most of the horses entered have competed throughout the summer on the Fair Circuit throughout the province of Quebec. The fairs also feature many young drivers seeking their professional pari-mutuel driving and training licenses. The tenth and twelfth races are dedicated to these young drivers.

The tenth race features Patrice Dumas, Kiwon Waldron (who is from Bermuda), Mathieu Desrochers, Sam Fillion, Antoine Derochers, Joel Gagnon and Sebastien Harvey.

The twelfth race features only female drivers. Competing are Lena Ouellet, Johanne Dechamplain, Guylaine Gagnon, Nathalie Migneault, Nancy Auger, Roxanne Viau, Jessica Turenne and Wendy St Pierre.

First race post time Sunday is 1:00 pm. For a free race program and to watch the races online, visit quebecjockeyclub.com. To view entries for Sunday's card, click the following link: Sunday Entries - Hippodrome 3R.
