Sunshineinmypocket Dances To Victory
Sunshineinmypocket overcame a wide draw by saving ground and lunging up the open stretch to prevail in Wednesday's (Sept. 25) feature at Grand River Raceway, a $12,000 conditioned pace for Ontario-sired three-year-old fillies.
Scott Coulter attempted to float the daughter of Dali into action from the extreme outside, but was forced to retreat to the tail of the six-filly field when unable to find a seat. After racing last through splits of :28 and :57.4 controlled by Rosella (Bruce Richardson), Sunshineinmypocket began to improve her position up the inside path on the second circuit.
As pressure mounted on Rosella past three-quarters in 1:26.3, Sunshineinmypocket found a clear lane to steal the pocket — abandoned by Loves Delight (Paul MacKenzie) — nearing the eighth pole. Off the corner, Sunshineinmypocket surged up the pegs, collaring Loves Delight by a neck in 1:57, while Persistant Xample (Robert Shepherd) rallied for third.
