‘Burn Out’ Looking To Drop And Pop
Burn Out Hanover will be taking a drop down from the Invitational ranks this week, and thus he will have a target squarely on his back as the one to beat in the Thursday evening (Sept. 26) feature at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash Thursday card will get underway at 6:30 p.m. Gilles Barrieau has picked up the drive on Burn Out Hanover in the $2,700 Preferred 2 Pace (Race 11). The Jeff Holmes trainee has not missed a cheque since July. He is set to line up in Post 2 in the seven-horse affair for owner Orwell Bay Stable of Orwell.
Screen Test was a winner in 1:56 in his last start and will start from Post 3 Thursday for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Stephen Gass. Rail control belongs to JJ Powerball and Marc Campbell has picked up the catch drive for trainer Wade Sorrie.
Race analyst Les MacIsaac has sided with Burn Out Hanover to earn the top prize.
"Burn Out Hanover has been keeping company with the bearcats in recent starts and while he hasn't been able to crack the top three, he never missed a cheque," MacIsaac said. "With a slight drop [Thursday] there could be nothing to stand in his way."
The field will also feature Jeb (to be driven by Jason Hughes), Best To Hurst (Walter Cheverie), Tobinator (Ken Murphy) and Red Magician (Adam Merner).
The $1,750 Andy Butler Memorial Trot will line up for Race 5. Majian Chester has been installed as the top choice and he will host Gordie Hennessey in the bike for trainer Jim Ripley and owner Marylea Ripley of Amherst, NS.
Mrs Dragonfire is set to make her Island debut in Race 12. David Dowling will drive the new acquisition of owner-trainer Reg Ferguson from Post 8 in the field of pacing mares. Mrs Dragonfire is a four-year-old daughter of Dragon Again that boasts seven lifetime wins and $35,391 in career purse earnings.
