Copley Cops Three; Takes Featured Trot
Trainer Jamie Copley won three races on the 10-race card at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, Sept. 22, including the $8,600 Preferred Trot with Batting Stats.
Driver Rodney La Framboise positioned Batting Stats fourth while Revenue Agent and Volare battled for the lead through fractions of :27.2, :56.3 and 1:26.3. Race-favourite Pasadena Star lunged past the duelers from second over to take the lead entering the stretch. Batting Stats slipped into contention off a stalking-pylon trip to get a head up on the finish in 1:57. Revenue Agent held third.
A four-year-old gelding by Encore Encore, Batting Stats won his eighth race from 29 starts this season and his 10th from 69 overall, earning $125,012. Copley Stables owns the $11.30 winner. Copley’s other winners came with Mach Domi ($2.10) and in the next race with The Roadies ($3.20).
Chaleurs Ad won going wire to wire for the third-straight occasion in the $8,600 Preferred Pace.
Sent the 4-5 favourite, trainer-driver Guy Gagnon took command with the seven-year-old Riggins gelding prior to a :27 first quarter. He faced a dull first-over challenge from Sauslbrook Lanny through middle splits of :57.1 and 1:24.3 before strolling to a length victory in 1:53.3 with pocket-sitter Ufdragons Rocket finishing second. National Debt dashed from last for third.
Owned by Ecuries Maguire Inc., Chaleurs Ad won his ninth race from 20 starts this season and his 38th from 98 overall, earning $104,520. He paid $3.90 to win.
