Fire Kills Five Standardbreds
A barn fire in Michigan early Thursday morning has claimed the life of five standardbred racehorses, leaving an owner heart-broken
.
Horseman Tom Clark had just returned from racing at Northville Downs and came home to a smoldering 40 x 120' barn that was burned to the ground along with some 3,000 bales of hay and standardbreds Buckeye Ricky, Buckeye Elizabeth, Buckeye Alexi, KB Twister and Rich Yankee. Thankfully one horse, KB Lady, escaped the fire.
"My heart broke," Clark told The Times Herald. "I couldn't tell you how I felt. It was unbelievable."
One barn that held farm equipment was saved by the firefighters, of which two were injured during the 10 hours on the scene.
